Metrogas faces local opposition and launches safety campaign

Metrogas has launched a new audiovisual campaign aimed at preventing damage to its gas network. The campaign features six spots depicting everyday scenarios, such as residents installing trash bins or extracting tree roots, to warn neighbors, service companies, and construction firms about the risks of unauthorized excavation. Alejandro Di Lázzaro, Director of Corporate Affairs and Communication, emphasized that even simple digging can interrupt gas supplies and endanger lives. The initiative is part of the company’s Damage Prevention Program, which provides information on installation locations and advisory services.

In a separate development, residents of Villa Pehuén 11 in Maipú have expressed strong opposition to a Metrogas project involving the installation of natural gas distribution pipelines. The neighborhood association reported that 231 out of 260 homes—approximately 88.8%—rejected both the planned excavations and the subsequent service. Residents stated they were not informed about the project until sales representatives began offering connections. The proposed works, scheduled tentatively to begin in November 2026, involve intervening in sidewalks and public spaces.
