Metrolinx CEO addresses provincial review and LRT delays

Metrolinx CEO Michael Lindsay has stated that a government-ordered review of the transportation agency will not focus on frontline employees. The review, ordered by Ontario Treasury Board President Peter Bethlenfalvy, is part of a broader assessment of eight provincial agencies selected due to their size, complexity, and reliance on government funding.

Lindsay noted that Metrolinx has already taken steps to increase efficiency, including eliminating approximately 1,200 consultants to save an estimated $100 million annually and adhering to a 2025 directive to halt non-essential hiring.

Regarding infrastructure progress, Lindsay announced that major construction on the 18-kilometre Hazel McCallion LRT is expected to extend into 2027. While 75 per cent of track work is complete and several infrastructure milestones have been met, the project will still require an extensive system integration and testing phase similar to previous light-rail projects.
