Metronome Prague music festival to end after ten years
The Metronome Prague music festival is coming to an end after ten years of operation. Organizers Martin Voňka and David Gaydečka announced that the international event will not hold another edition due to persistent financial difficulties, insufficient attendance, and a lack of long-term strategic partners.
In their announcement, organizers cited the challenges of managing a metropolitan festival, noting that support from Prague City Hall was not sufficient or comprehensive enough to ensure sustainable growth. They also highlighted increasing difficulties caused by local complaints regarding noise and disruptions from evening and night programming.
Despite a recent partnership with Live Nation Czech Republic intended to provide stronger backing and international experience, the festival was unable to secure the necessary conditions for long-term survival. The tenth edition, which took place at Letňany airport, featured performers such as Sting and Nick Cave, but attendance reportedly fell short of the levels typically seen for major international acts at that venue. The organizers indicated they intend to host other musical events throughout the year rather than concentrating them into a single weekend.
