Metropol files for bankruptcy, impacting Santiago bus services

Metropol, the parent company of bus operators Buses Alfa and Buses Omega, has filed for voluntary liquidation. This move affects more than 50 services and a fleet of 741 buses, representing approximately 10.3% of Santiago's RED public transport system.

The affected routes connect several areas within the Metropolitan Region, including Huechuraba, Renca, Puente Alto, and San Bernardo. To manage the transition, Fernando Saka has been appointed as provisional administrator to ensure operational continuity.

The Metropolitan Public Transport Directorate (DTPM) stated that the RED system's flexible model allows for measures to protect passenger connectivity despite the financial situation of the involved companies. The DTPM has confirmed that bus availability is being safeguarded to maintain service.
