Metropolis of Serres welcomes return of some sacred treasures from Bulgaria

The Holy Metropolis of Serres and Nigrita has welcomed the return of a portion of its sacred treasures from Bulgaria. Metropolitan Theologos expressed satisfaction with the arrival of these items, noting the long-standing efforts by the Greek state, various organizations, and local associations to facilitate their repatriation.

Despite this partial success, the Metropolitan emphasized that the struggle continues. He stated that Bulgaria, having acknowledged the presence of the stolen items within its territory, is obligated under international treaties—specifically citing Neuiy and The Hague—to return all sacred relics that were forcibly removed from the region. The Metropolis maintains its demand for the unconditional return of all remaining illegally seized ecclesiastical treasures.
