Metropolitan Chrysostomos resigns after 42 years in Mytilene

Chrysostomos, the 96-year-old Metropolitan of Mytilene, has resigned from his position after 42 years of service on the island of Lesbos. The Holy Synod of the Church of Greece unanimously accepted his resignation, which was submitted due to his advanced age.

Chrysostomos, who also served as the Vice President of the Standing Holy Synod, has been a prominent figure in the Church for 72 years. Following his departure, Metropolitan Iakovos of Mytilene will serve as the caretaker for the Metropolis until a new metropolitan is elected through official ecclesiastical procedures.

During the same synod meeting, the Church of Greece reviewed reports on charitable activities, noting that philanthropic efforts distributed over 124 million euros and 2.2 million kilograms of food to beneficiaries in the past year.
