Metropolitan Chrysostomos speaks at International Theological Congress
Metropolitan Chrysostomos of Messenia represented the Church of Greece at the 6th International Theological Congress of the Panhellenic Union of Theologians (P.E.T.). The event took place in Athens on September 18–19, 2026.
The congress, held under the auspices of the Standing Holy Synod of the Church of Greece, focused on the theme of ‘Orthodox teaching of religious subjects with new programs and books.’ During the proceedings, Metropolitan Chrysostomos delivered a message from the Holy Synod and presented a paper titled ‘Is the theologian necessary today for the work of the Church?’
In his presentation, the Metropolitan argued that theology and the Church are complementary. He emphasized that in a postmodern era where traditional values and ethics are frequently questioned, the collaboration between theologians and the pastoral Church is essential to prevent the Church from losing its orientation.
