Metropolitan Damaskinos addresses modern social contradictions

Metropolitan Damaskinos of Aetolia and Acarnania has released a Sunday message addressing the contradictions of the modern era. He observes that despite having thousands of online friends, society is experiencing intense loneliness.

The Metropolitan highlights several societal tensions, including easy access to knowledge versus widespread semi-literacy, the dominance of Artificial Intelligence versus emotional immaturity, and the protection of freedom of expression versus rising hatred toward those with differing views.

He specifically warns against the prevalence of fanaticism, noting that it manifests through aggression, irony, and a refusal to listen to opposing opinions. According to Damaskinos, a fanatic views those who disagree as enemies and fails to evolve spiritually because they believe they already possess the absolute truth. This behavior leads to social isolation and turns discussions into battles of imposition rather than searches for truth.
