Metropolitan Damaskinos discusses human relationships and suspicion

Metropolitan Damaskinos of Aetolia and Acarnania shared a message regarding the complexities of human connection and the impact of suspicion on social bonds. Referencing the 1944 philosophical concept ‘Hell is other people’, the Metropolitan noted that individuals often struggle with the judgment, rejection, and criticism of others, leading to a desire for isolation.

However, he emphasized that loneliness is not a solution, as humans inherently require communication, love, and shared experiences. He identified suspicion as a primary factor complicating modern relationships, stating that it replaces trust with fear and cooperation with competition. He concluded by referencing the Apostle Paul’s teachings to the Christians of Colossae as an alternative path to overcoming these social barriers.
