Metropolitan Damaskinos emphasizes daily prayer and spiritual study

Metropolitan Damaskinos of Aetolia and Acarnania issued a spiritual message emphasizing the necessity of daily prayer, study, and remembrance of God. He advised that amidst the labors and activities of daily life, individuals should maintain constant contact with the Gospel and the teachings of the faith.

The Metropolitan noted that systematic spiritual practice, including heartfelt prayer and the study of biblical and patristic texts, helps prevent the soul from drifting away from its source of joy. He warned that without being nourished by divine grace, the human soul can become cold and easily led toward transient pleasures and passions.

Referencing the Apostle Paul’s address to the Corinthians, Damaskinos urged believers not to take divine grace for granted but to remain active cooperators with God by distancing themselves from worldly influences that may alienate them from the divine.
