Metropolitan Damaskinos visits Cyprus to mark Messolonghi anniversary

Metropolitan Damaskinos of Aetolia and Acarnania conducted a symbolic visit to Cyprus from September 18 to 21, 2026, to commemorate the 200th anniversary of the heroic Exodus of Messolonghi.

A central event of the visit was the 15th Conference of the Christian Union of Cypriot Scientists (XEKE), held at the Holy Archbishopric of Cyprus under the auspices of Archbishop George. The conference focused on the messages and lessons of the Messolonghi Exodus.

During his stay in Nicosia, the Metropolitan met with Archbishop George to strengthen the spiritual ties between the Church of Cyprus and the Metropolis of Aetolia and Acarnania. He also visited significant historical sites, including the Imprisoned Graves and the Tomb of the Macedonian Woman, to pay tribute to freedom fighters.
