Metropolitan Hrizostom commemorates Prebilovci massacre victims

Metropolitan Hrizostom of the Dabro‑Bosna diocese led a liturgy in the Church of the Resurrection of Christ in Prebilovci, marking the 85th anniversary of the 1941 Ustaše massacre of Serb villagers. He recalled that 830 inhabitants, mainly women, children and the elderly, were killed and many were thrown into the Golubinka pit, wiping out 57 families.

The hierarch stressed that the martyrs are a source of salvation for the Serbian people and likened their suffering to a biblical test of faith. He was joined by Serbian Minister Nenad Popović, General Consul Vaso Gujić, members of the Republika Srpska parliament, local officials and numerous faithful from Herzegovina.

Hrizostom invoked the resurrection of Christ, urging that after every tragedy a new life emerges, and called for pride in the memory of the Prebilovci and Herzegovinian martyrs.
