Metropolitan Institute of Bratislava releases safe street design manual

The Metropolitan Institute of Bratislava (MIB) has developed a new manual for creating safe streets. The document provides principles and standards intended for urban planners, architects, transport engineers, and local governments to improve public space quality and reduce traffic accident risks.

The manual focuses on a systematic approach to designing urban communications, prioritizing vulnerable road users such as pedestrians and cyclists. It includes a typology of traffic calming measures and categorizes Bratislava's streets—ranging from major thoroughfares to residential and natural zone entrances—to provide specific design requirements based on international examples and local experience.
