A boa constrictor named Princess has been cast in an upcoming production of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s opera ‘Così fan tutte’ at the Metropolitan Opera in New York. The production features a setting inspired by a 1950s Coney Island carnival.

Zoe Ziegfeld, a performer cast as the snake handler, conducted auditions to select the reptile. The selection process involved evaluating the animals' temperament and ability to remain comfortable while being handled. Princess, a large sun-glow boa constrictor, was chosen for her visual presence on stage. A smaller brown boa constrictor named Nala will serve as the understudy.

This marks the third time Ziegfeld has performed the role of the snake charmer in this specific adaptation of the 1790 opera.
