Metropolitan Opera celebrates 20 years of cinema broadcasts

The Metropolitan Opera is celebrating 20 years of its Live HD program, which brings opera productions to cinemas worldwide. The anniversary celebration begins on September 19 with a special presentation titled ‘Twenty Years of the Met in Cinemas,’ featuring a compilation of over 185 arias and memorable moments presented by soprano Renée Fleming.

The anniversary programming includes delayed broadcasts of successful productions such as Carmen, La Flauta Mágica, and Tosca. In Colombia, Cine Colombia will host the program, offering eight live transmissions from New York for the 2026-2027 season, alongside the special anniversary titles.

Since 2006, the MetOpera Live HD initiative has sold more than 33 million tickets and reached audiences in over 70 countries, serving as a major effort to expand global access to opera.
