Metropolitan Opera celebrates 20 years of live cinema broadcasts

The Metropolitan Opera is celebrating the 20th anniversary of its live cinema broadcast series. The program, which began in 2006 with a broadcast of Mozart’s Die Zauberflöte, has expanded to numerous countries worldwide.

The 2026/2027 season will commence on September 19 with a birthday gala moderated by soprano Renée Fleming. The event will feature highlights compiled from nearly 200 broadcasts, showcasing performances by artists such as Lise Davidsen, Jonas Kaufmann, and Joyce DiDonato. The program includes arias and duets from classic works including Carmen, La Traviata, and Der Ring des Nibelungen.
