Metropolitan Police criticized over jurisdictional error in Shoreditch theft

A journalist reported the theft of a rucksack containing a video camera, tripod, and microphone from a pub in Shoreditch, near Old Street station. CCTV footage from the establishment captured two men stealing the bag by dragging it with a foot before picking it up and walking away.

Despite having clear footage and a precise timeframe for the incident, the Metropolitan Police allegedly failed to assist due to a jurisdictional error. A 999 operator claimed the address was not in their system and insisted the incident occurred within the City of London jurisdiction, directing the victim to contact the City Police instead, despite the victim's insistence that the location was within the Met's area.
