Metropolitan Police officer calls for Commissioner's resignation
Detective Linda Williams, a former Metropolitan Police officer who was raped by serial offender David Carrick in 2004, has called for the resignation of Commissioner Sir Mark Rowley. Williams stated that the force's handling of her legal battle left her feeling “controlled, abused and powerless,” describing the experience as “like being raped all over again.”
Williams recently settled a civil claim against the Metropolitan Police for an undisclosed six-figure sum. While the force has not admitted liability, it stated it aimed to deal with her claims as quickly and compassionately as possible, acknowledging the unique impact of her trauma.
Williams, who has waived her right to anonymity, expressed a profound lack of trust in the institution, stating she would not report a rape to the force today. She criticized the Met for failing to reform the culture that allowed Carrick to operate and noted that legal challenges to the severity of her PTSD during proceedings were particularly distressing.
