Metropolitan Timotheos honors Saint Sophia in Platanos Farsalon

Metropolitan Timotheos of Thessaliotida presided over a Vespers service in Platanos Farsalon on Wednesday, September 16, to honor Saint Sophia and her daughters, Faith, Hope, and Love.

During his sermon, the Metropolitan emphasized that honoring saints serves as a way to find living examples for modern life. He noted that while ancient martyrs faced physical sacrifice, contemporary individuals are called to ‘crucify’ passions, ego, and selfishness to achieve spiritual clarity. He described the virtues of the saints—Wisdom, Faith, Hope, and Love—as essential tools for navigating human existence.

The Metropolitan also addressed modern societal challenges, characterizing mobile phones and artificial intelligence as ‘modern idols’ that can distract from spiritual truths.
