Metropolitan Timotheos of Thessaly leads major Orthodox services in Greece

Metropolitan Timotheos of Thessaly and Fanariophoreas delivered a sermon on 4 August 2026 during the evening service for the Dormition of the Theotokos at the Holy Church of the Dormition in Sarantaporo. He emphasized that the Church speaks of the Theotokos’s “co‑sleeping” rather than death, describing her as the bridge between heaven and earth and highlighting the theological significance of her dormition.

The following day, 5 August 2026, the Metropolitan again addressed the faithful at the Transfiguration celebration in Kurti. He explained the feast as an invitation to spiritual ascent, linking Old Testament motifs such as Moses on Mount Sinai to the New Testament revelation in the hearts of believers. The sermon stressed the need for inner purification and repentance as prerequisites for encountering God.
