Metropolitano begins testing new connection to Lima Metro Line 1

The Metropolitano bus system has begun empty-load operational testing on the Vía Expresa Grau to establish a connection between Central Station and the Grau station of Lima Metro Line 1. This 2.8-kilometer exclusive corridor, managed by the Municipalidad de Lima and supervised by the ATU, is designed to facilitate direct transfers for commuters traveling from northern districts such as Carabayllo and Comas toward the city center.

The project, executed by Emape with an investment of approximately 130 million soles, is currently 95% complete. The new route includes three intermediate stops—Abancay, Andahuaylas, and Parinacochas—and a transfer point at Aviación Avenue. Technical testing is currently focused on calibrating traffic lights, sensors, and automated station doors.

According to officials, technical testing is expected to conclude by September 30. A ‘marcha blanca’ (trial period) involving passengers and regular fare collection is scheduled to run from October through November to allow driver training. Full commercial operation of the stations is slated for December.
