Metrorex union leadership faces criticism and historical shifts

Marian Artimon, president of the Unitatea – Sindicatul Liber Metrou (USLM), has criticized the current management of the Bucharest metro, claiming that decision-making has shifted from technical expertise to economic considerations. Artimon stated that there are too many women in leadership roles and argued that the metro should be led by technical experts rather than those focused solely on budgets. He also noted that many subunits within Metrorex lack proper leadership due to cost-cutting measures, pointing out that only 1.7% of personnel hold management positions despite legal allowances of up to 8%.

In a separate development related to the metro's labor history, former USLM leader Ion Rădoi, once a highly influential figure in public transport, has undergone a liver transplant at age 64. Rădoi was known for his significant influence over metro services and commercial spaces through the Sindomet Servcom company. His tenure was marked by major strikes and control over station retail contracts, which ended in 2021 following government interventions.
