Metsä Group invests 25 million euros in Äänekoski packaging plant
Metsä Group is investing approximately 25 million euros in a new production line for Muoto food packaging in Äänekoski. The new line, which will be located next to the existing Muoto pilot plant, is scheduled to begin operations in 2028.
Muoto is a fiber-based packaging solution developed by Metsä Group that uses wet wood pulp to create rigid, lightweight products designed to replace plastic in demanding food service applications. The investment aims to meet the growing demand for fossil-free packaging solutions and comply with strict EU packaging and packaging waste regulations. The production line will be supplied by technology company Valmet and is expected to have a nominal capacity of over 100 million products per year. The decision to locate the investment in Äänekoski follows a selection process where Rauma was also considered.
