Mets owner Steve Cohen backs David Stearns, says Lindor‑Soto rift resolved

Mets owner Steve Cohen told The New York Post’s podcast that president of baseball operations David Stearns will remain in his role through the 2028 season, completing his five‑year contract. Cohen said he has not considered firing Stearns, noting the team’s mixed record, a 2024 NLCS run and that it is “too early to evaluate” the front office. He warned against “burn‑and‑churn” turnover, adding the change that will not be made is moving Stearns out now.

Cohen also addressed clubhouse rumors about Francisco Lindor and Juan Soto, stating the tension reported last season is “last year’s story” and the players are now getting along much better. He emphasized that both stars are under long‑term contracts and remain core pieces of the franchise.

The Mets are struggling this season, sitting 36‑50 and last in the National League East, with injuries to key players and a payroll near $300 million. Cohen expressed concern over the team’s performance and farm‑system development, but reaffirmed his confidence in Stearns and the player core.
