Mette-Marit’s Health Crisis Triggers Surge in Norwegian Donations

Crown Princess Mette-Marit of Norway, 52, was diagnosed with progressive lung fibrosis and prepared for a lung transplant that took place in June 2026. Following the public announcement in December 2025, many Norwegians registered as organ donors and expressed support for the royal family.

The royal foundation run by Crown Prince Haakon and Crown Princess Mette-Marit saw a notable increase in contributions, collecting €1.77 million in 2025 – about €90 000 more than the previous year and roughly double the amount recorded in 2021. A key focus of the foundation is the "Flyt" programme, which assists youths transitioning between secondary school levels to reduce dropout rates. Despite the record‑high donations, the foundation reported a modest operating loss of around €20 000.
