Mettur Dam water discharge increased to 12,000 cusecs for Kaveri Delta irrigation

Authorities have increased the water discharge from the Mettur Dam to 12,000 cubic feet per second to meet rising irrigation demands in the Kaveri Delta region. The increase, implemented on Monday morning, follows a series of incremental releases aimed at supporting farmers during the early stages of cultivation.

This decision is specifically intended to provide reliable irrigation for Samba paddy crops. Earlier in the month, water was initially released at 3,000 cusecs, later rising to 7,000 cusecs, then 10,000 cusecs on Sunday evening, before reaching the current 12,000 cusecs level.

As of Sunday evening, the Mettur reservoir's water level was recorded at 92.39 feet, with available storage at approximately 55.35 TMC. Officials continue to monitor inflow, storage, and irrigation needs to balance water release with reservoir stability.
