Međugospojinski period begins following Velika Gospojina

The Međugospojinski period, a traditional timeframe in folk customs, begins on August 28 following the feast of Velika Gospojina (the Dormition of the Holy Virgin) and lasts until September 21, when Mala Gospojina is observed.

Historically, this period serves as a transition between summer and autumn. In traditional households, it was a practical time for concluding summer labors, such as harvesting fruits and vegetables, preparing winter food supplies (zimnica), and gathering and drying medicinal herbs for later use.

Religiously, the period is preceded by the Gospojinski fast from August 14 to August 28. For believers, the feast of Velika Gospojina is marked by prayer, liturgy, Holy Communion, and family gatherings.
