Meutya Hafid urges parents to foster healthy digital habits in children

Indonesian Minister of Communication and Digital Affairs Meutya Hafid has called on parents and educators to guide children in developing healthy digital habits. During an event in Tabanan, Bali, the minister emphasized the importance of balancing digital engagement with physical activities such as sports, cycling, and face-to-face social interaction.

The appeal follows the implementation of Government Regulation No. 17 of 2025, known as PP TUNAS, which governs electronic systems for child protection. This regulation aims to shield children from digital risks by restricting access to high-risk platforms for those under the age of 16. Hafid compared the risks of social media and online gaming to driving a car, noting that children must wait until they are mature enough to navigate such dangerous environments safely.
