Mevlid Jašarević to be released from prison on October 27
Mevlid Jašarević, who served a 15-year sentence for attacking the U.S. Embassy in Sarajevo in 2011, is scheduled to be released from prison on October 27.
Despite his release, Jašarević remains subject to a new legal proceeding before the Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina. He faces allegations of threatening prison staff at the Vojković facility. While the prosecution requested that his passport be confiscated to ensure his presence during the trial, the court only partially granted the request. Instead, Jašarević is required to report to the Novi Grad Police Station in Sarajevo twice a month.
As a Serbian citizen, he is permitted to return to Serbia following his release, provided he adheres to the reporting requirements. His lawyer, Alma Tabaković, stated that the defense believes the prosecution has failed to prove the factual allegations and noted that upcoming hearings are expected to conclude the evidentiary process and move toward final statements and a verdict. Jašarević has expressed intentions to spend time with his family and dedicate his life to artistic work.
