Mevlüt Aktan resigns from Turkish Football Federation board

Mevlüt Aktan, a member of the Turkish Football Federation (TFF) Board of Directors, has resigned from his position. In a public statement, Aktan criticized the current administration for lacking the necessary knowledge, experience, vision, and organizational competence to lead the federation.

Aktan stated that the management failed to fulfill promises made to delegates during the General Assembly and has not implemented regulations to strengthen the economic structure or brand value of Turkish football. He characterized the current leadership style as being managed like a ‘family company’ where decisions are made within a narrow circle without room for diverse opinions.

His resignation follows a period of instability within the TFF, including a wave of departures and investigations into betting and irregularities. Following Aktan's departure, the TFF Board of Directors met to discuss the crisis, which includes issues regarding refereeing irregularities and the performance of the National Team. The board has reportedly reached a consensus to move toward an ‘Extraordinary Elective General Assembly’ to address the legitimacy crisis and restructure the federation based on merit, transparency, and accountability.
