Mewon Organization: Houthi ballistic missile attack on Taiz residential area may constitute war crime

The Mewon Human Rights Organization has stated that a Houthi ballistic missile attack on the Saina residential neighborhood in Taiz, which occurred on Tuesday, October 20, represents a grave violation of international humanitarian law and may amount to a “war crime”.

The attack resulted in the deaths of two women and injuries to seven civilians, including two children and four women. It also caused the destruction of three homes and damaged several others. Following a field investigation and witness testimonies, the organization concluded that the area contained no legitimate military targets, characterizing the strike as a random attack that violates the principle of distinction between civilians and combatants.

Abdo Ali Al-Huthaifi, president of the Mewon Organization, called for independent criminal investigations to ensure accountability. The organization noted that this incident follows ongoing military escalation and Houthi-imposed blockades in Taiz since early October, which have led to a 50% decrease in water production, rising water costs, increased cholera cases, and the disruption of 98 health facilities due to fuel and supply shortages.
