MEXC appoints Robert MacDonald as chief compliance officer to lead global regulation

MEXC, a cryptocurrency exchange with more than 40 million users, announced the appointment of Robert MacDonald as its chief compliance officer. MacDonald, who previously held senior compliance roles at Bybit, Standard Chartered and Binance, will oversee the exchange’s worldwide regulatory strategy, licensing, anti‑money‑laundering and know‑your‑customer programs.

The hire comes as MEXC expands beyond core crypto trading into equities‑related products, IPO access and tokenised assets, sectors that fall under securities regulators in many jurisdictions. CEO Vugar Usi said MacDonald’s experience across traditional finance, fintech and digital assets is needed to build a resilient governance framework as the industry faces increasingly prescriptive rules.

MacDonald emphasized that “trust won’t be a competitive advantage; compliance is the price of entry,” and outlined priorities such as strengthening transaction monitoring, expanding licensing efforts across priority jurisdictions and embedding automated compliance controls.
