Mexicali authorities honor assassinated subcommander Barajas Félix

Authorities in Mexicali held a memorial service and final roll call for José Ramón Barajas Félix, a subcommander of the Immediate Reaction Group, who was assassinated on Tuesday. The attack occurred at his residence in the Oviedo Mota Reacomodo ejido in the Mexicali Valley. According to the Prosecutor's Office, two hooded individuals opened fire, leaving approximately 200 .223 caliber shell casings at the scene.

During the ceremony, family members confronted Mexicali Mayor Norma Bustamante Martínez and Police Director Luis Felipe Chan Baltazar, demanding action against the rising violence and insecurity in the Mexicali Valley. The family expressed deep frustration regarding the criminal situation in the region.

Police Director Chan Baltazar noted that Barajas Félix’s work focused on combating drug retail and locating priority targets related to commercial robberies. He confirmed that the Immediate Reaction Group will continue its operations and that the state prosecutor's office has ordered protection measures for the victim's family.
