La Paz festival participant's costume catches fire

During a Day of the Dead festival held at the Malecón in La Paz, Baja California Sur, a participant in a Catrina contest experienced a scare when her headpiece caught fire while walking the runway.

The incident occurred when sparks from a ceremonial staff equipped with flares ignited the participant's large floral headpiece. Although the fire caused alarm among spectators, staff members intervened quickly to remove the headpiece, preventing the woman from sustaining injuries. The flames were eventually extinguished on the ground using a fire extinguisher, and the contest proceeded without further major disruptions.
