Mexicali generates over 42,000 new formal jobs

Mexicali recorded 42,732 new formal jobs in July 2026 compared to the same month in 2025, according to data from the Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS). This growth brought the total number of workers registered with the IMSS in the city to 312,272 as of July 31, 2026, up from 269,540 during the previous year.

The local labor market reached a historic high in the number of workers with social security. The commerce and services sectors were the primary drivers of this growth, accounting for 51% of the insured workers in the city.

Additionally, Mexicali maintains the highest average daily wage in Baja California, reaching 768.06 pesos as of July 31, 2026.
