Mexican animation La venganza del Charro Negro breaks box office records

The Mexican animated film “La venganza del Charro Negro,” produced by Ánima Estudios and Videocine, has achieved significant commercial success, entering the global top 10 box office during its first four days of exhibition. The film earned 93,651,208 pesos, attracting over 1.45 million spectators. This debut nearly triples the opening of its 2018 predecessor, “La leyenda del Charro Negro,” which opened with 29 million pesos.

The production has surpassed the opening figures of several major Mexican titles, including “No manches Frida 2” and “Mirreyes vs Godínez.” Due to the favorable theatrical landscape surrounding Day of the Dead, projections suggest final earnings could exceed 300 million pesos, which would make it the highest-grossing animated film in Mexican history.

The story follows the protagonist Leo San Juan, voiced by Benny Emmanuel, as he faces the return of the villainous Charro Negro, voiced by Erick Elías. The plot involves the release of various legendary creatures, forcing Leo and his companions—including characters voiced by Emilio Treviño, Mayté Cordeiro, and Annie Rojas—to reunite to face supernatural threats.
