Spanish police dismantle major illegal weapons arsenal in Figueres

Spanish National Police have dismantled one of the largest clandestine weapon arsenals ever discovered in Spain. The operation, centered in a storage room in Figueres (Girona) acting as a workshop, resulted in the seizure of 644 firearms. Of these, 220 to 221 weapons had already been modified from blank or traumatic guns to fire real ammunition.

Seven people have been arrested in connection with the criminal network, which had operational points in the Valencian Community, Badajoz, and Huesca. The investigation revealed that the organization used fictitious identities to ship weapons across Spain. The leader of the group, an expert armorer with former Russian military experience, specialized in transforming non-lethal weapons into lethal ones.

The seized material, including thousands of cartridges, silencers, and high-capacity magazines, is estimated to have a black market value of between four and five million euros. The weapons were reportedly intended for criminal organizations involved in drug trafficking, kidnappings, and extortion.
