Mexican athlete Mario Torruco dies in Aruba during fitness competition

Mexican functional fitness athlete and coach Mario Torruco has died in Aruba following complications during the iF3 Masters World Championship. Torruco, a native of Tamaulipas, collapsed during a trail running event held near the Bushiribana gold processing ruins under extreme heat conditions reaching nearly 40 degrees Celsius.

Reports indicate Torruco fainted approximately 500 meters from the finish line. While he was initially assisted by fellow competitors and transported to the Horacio Oduber Hospital, his condition deteriorated. His partner, Diana Burrola, stated that he suffered severe dehydration, leading to organ failure and a coma before his heart eventually stopped functioning.

Questions have been raised regarding the medical response at the event. Burrola alleged that Torruco did not receive immediate first aid from official institutions and that he was primarily aided by another competitor. She has called for support from the Mexican Functional Fitness Federation, the International Functional Fitness Federation, and Conade.
