Mexican authorities arrest 11 Los Chapitos members linked to miner kidnappings
Mexican state and federal authorities arrested 11 members of the ‘Los Chapitos’ faction of the Sinaloa Cartel in Escuinapa, Sinaloa. The detainees are allegedly linked to the kidnapping of 10 miners from the Canadian company Vizsla Silver, an incident that occurred in Concordia in January.
The operation, conducted by the Secretariat of National Defense (SEDENA) and public security agents in the village of La Isla del Bosque, resulted in the seizure of 12 long weapons, magazines, ammunition, tactical gear, and vests. The arrested individuals are reportedly connected to Óscar Luciano Martínez Larios, known as ‘El Casco,’ a regional leader for the group.
This latest arrest brings the total number of individuals detained in connection with the Vizsla Silver case to 18. Most of the kidnapped miners were found deceased in clandestine graves earlier this year. The suspects have been placed at the disposal of the Attorney General's Office in Culiacán for further investigation.
