Iván Sánchez Santiago, leader of ‘Los Cromos’, arrested in Jalisco

Iván Sánchez Santiago, alias ‘El Cromo’, a leader of the criminal group ‘Los Cromos’, was arrested in Guadalajara, Jalisco, during a coordinated intelligence operation. The group is allegedly linked to the Cártel Jalisco Nueva Generación (CJNG) and is active in the Isthmus of Tehuantepec region of Oaxaca, specifically in Juchitán de Zaragoza.

Authorities report that Sánchez Santiago faces three arrest warrants for homicide, including two documented cases involving three victims. The criminal organization is also under investigation for its suspected involvement in the murder of a four-year-old girl in Juchitán, as well as activities including extortion, kidnapping, and drug and arms trafficking.

This arrest follows the September 23 detention of Miguel Sánchez Altamirano, the former municipal president of Juchitán de Zaragoza, who is being investigated for alleged links to criminal structures and extortion. The operation involved multiple federal and state agencies, including the Mexican Navy (Semar), the National Intelligence Center (CNI), and the Secretariat of Security and Protection of the Citizen (SSPC).
