Mexico rolls out Mundial Social 2026 projects across municipalities

The federal government, led by President Claudia Sheinbaum, has begun implementing the Mundial Social 2026 programme, using the FIFA World Cup to fund new sports and community infrastructure. In Quintana Roo, Playa del Carmen received four football‑5 fields and five multi‑use courts, funded with 9.8 million pesos from the National Infrastructure Trust, while Puerto Morelos opened two synthetic‑grass soccer pitches and announced rehabilitation of two additional multi‑purpose courts. Simultaneous inaugurations were held in Zacatecas’s Benito Juárez and Guadalupe units, adding synthetic fields and lighting under a 126 million‑peso investment aimed at 100 new or renovated courts in the state.

Parallel initiatives highlighted the role of emergency services. Municipalities such as Playa del Carmen, Naucalpan and several states recognised paramedics on International Paramedic Day, noting increases in pre‑hospital responses and expanded ambulance fleets. In Mexico City, security chief Pablo Vázquez coordinated an operational plan for World Cup events, deploying over 11 000 officers across venues without serious incidents.

The programme also promoted science and technology through the FutBot MX 2026 robotics football tournament, involving 53 teams from 24 educational institutions, to inspire early interest in STEM fields.
