Mexico FGR reports increase in fuel theft prosecutions

The Attorney General of Mexico (FGR), through its Specialized Prosecutor's Office for Organized Crime (FEMDO), reported a significant increase in legal actions against fuel theft and trafficking during the first ten months of 2026. The agency has processed 121 individuals and secured 60 convictions, surpassing the totals recorded for the entirety of 2025.

Recent high-impact operations include a raid on October 16 in Reynosa, Tamaulipas, where authorities seized approximately 1.5 million liters of hydrocarbons, including diesel and gasoline, along with over 100 vehicles, 71 of which were tanker trucks. Two individuals, identified as Manuel Epifanio Casso López and Andrés Antonio Colorado Valle, were detained and linked to the process.

Additional enforcement actions were noted in Querétaro and Mexico City, where three people were detained for suspected involvement in organized crime related to fuel. The FGR stated its strategy aims to dismantle entire commercial chains involving companies and public officials to combat the illegal market.
