Mexican authorities deny allegations of unlawful detention
Authorities in Mexico have issued denials regarding separate allegations of unlawful detention.
In Tlaxcala, government spokesperson Antonio Martínez Velázquez denied that an activist was deprived of her liberty during an incident at the Cereso prison. Officials stated the woman was denied entry because her clothing did not meet visitor protocols. The situation escalated when she allegedly attempted to record staff with a cellphone, which is prohibited in control areas. Officials maintained that the facility's gates remained closed as part of standard security procedures and that the activist was asked to leave rather than being detained.
In Tecolutla, the municipal government rejected claims that local police were involved in the illegal detention of lawyer Daniel Arbona. Mayor Wenceslao Santiago Castro issued a statement asserting that the officers and vehicle implicated in social media reports were assigned to different services at the time of the incident. The administration characterized the allegations as baseless disinformation spread via social media and announced intentions to take legal action against those responsible for spreading false information.
