Latin American authorities crack down on motorcycle theft and illegal racing

Law enforcement agencies across Latin America are conducting operations to combat motorcycle-related crimes, including theft, illegal racing, and drug trafficking.

In Mexico, authorities in Toluca dismantled a criminal network, arresting 18 individuals linked to motorcycle theft, street robberies, and drug dealing. In Tijuana, a search warrant led to the arrest of two men and the seizure of seven vehicles, three of which were reported stolen. Additionally, in Chihuahua, police recovered a stolen motorcycle and detained a man in the Cerro Prieto neighborhood.

In Colombia, investigations reveal that motorcycle theft has become a primary source of spare parts and recruitment for dissident groups in the southwest, particularly along the Pan-American highway. Meanwhile, in Guatemala, the National Civil Police warned that motorcycle thieves previously operating on Roosevelt Avenue are shifting to other sectors of Guatemala City due to increased security operations.

Other regional incidents include the seizure of four motorcycles during illegal racing in Yatytay, Paraguay, and the arrest of two individuals, including a minor, for motorcycle theft in Apure, Venezuela. In Puebla, Mexico, GPS tracking helped locate a platform driver who had been held captive by passengers used to distribute drugs.
