Mexican authorities seize 136 cattle in Otumba raid

Authorities in the State of Mexico and Veracruz conducted a coordinated raid in Otumba, seizing 136 head of cattle. Among the animals, 35 were confirmed as stolen property belonging to the meat company Sukarne.

The theft occurred on August 24 in Veracruz. Investigators were able to track the stolen livestock using Global Positioning System (GPS) chips installed in the animals for insurance and monitoring purposes. Drone surveillance was utilized to confirm the presence of the cattle at the property before the search was executed.

While 35 animals were returned to the legal representative of the company, 101 head of cattle remain in custody under the care of authorities. The case has raised questions regarding potential oversight failures at livestock inspection points during the transport of the stolen animals.
