AICM authorities seize millions of cigarettes and ayahuasca

Mexican authorities at the Mexico City International Airport (AICM) have conducted significant seizures of contraband. In two separate operations, customs officials intercepted over 5.4 million Pall Mall cigarettes originating from Singapore. The shipments, weighing approximately 9,160 kilograms, were falsely declared as electric speakers and scales. The detection was made possible through X-ray technology, risk analysis, and physical inspections by the Navy (Semar), the National Customs Agency (ANAM), and other federal security forces.

In a separate incident at the same airport, authorities seized approximately 930 grams of ayahuasca extract arriving from Peru. Officials identified the psychoactive substance as a risk to national security. These enforcement actions were the result of coordinated intelligence and documentary reviews by ANAM and Semar to strengthen control over international trade and prevent the illegal entry of regulated substances.
