Frontex coordinates major European operation against drug trafficking

A large-scale European operation coordinated by Frontex, titled ‘Joint Action Days Mobile 9’, has resulted in the arrest of over 330 individuals across 26 countries. Conducted between September 28 and October 9, the initiative targeted cross-border crime, including drug trafficking, smuggling, and vehicle theft.

Authorities seized 7.4 tons of cocaine, 2,389 kilograms of cannabis, and over 10 million smuggled cigarettes. Other significant seizures included 710 stolen vehicles, 80 firearms, 3,466 rounds of ammunition, and more than 44,600 benzodiazepine tablets. The operation involved inspections of over 150,000 people, 130,000 vehicles, and 2,721 vessels.

Seventy-five cases were linked to high-risk criminal networks identified under the European Platform Against Criminal Threats (EMPACT), leading to 51 specific arrests in Greece, Lithuania, Portugal, and Spain. The operation included participation from 19 EU member states alongside Albania, Kosovo, Moldova, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Serbia, and Switzerland.
