Mexican authorities warn against unauthorized Uber operations

Authorities in Mexican states Oaxaca and Hidalgo are issuing warnings regarding the legality of ride-hailing services like Uber.

In Oaxaca, the Secretariat of Mobility (Semovi) warned that operating passenger transport services via digital applications without proper authorization could result in fines exceeding 58,000 pesos (up to 500 UMA). This enforcement comes despite a 2021 announcement by former governor Alejandro Murat regarding the platform's arrival in the capital.

In Hidalgo, Governor Julio Menchaca Salazar stated that Uber is operating outside the law following the company's announcement of operations in Pachuca. The governor characterized the company's strategy as irresponsible and noted that the Ministry Public will determine legal consequences, which may include investigations into fraud and the irregular use of public services. He emphasized that the state government will not modify existing laws due to corporate pressure, though he did not rule out future mobility alternatives for users.
