Mexican banks BBVA and Banamex experience massive app outages

On Friday, 31 July 2026, customers of BBVA Mexico and Banamex reported widespread failures in the banks' mobile applications and electronic transfer services. Users were unable to log in, saw frozen screens or blank pages, and experienced delays in interbank SPEI transfers that did not reflect in their balances despite being marked as settled by Banco de México. The problems peaked around midday, with Downdetector recording hundreds of reports.

Both banks acknowledged the issues and advised customers to use their web banking platforms or to wait up to 24 hours for transfers to clear. BBVA cited high system saturation, while Banamex recommended clearing the app cache or using BancaNet. The outage coincided with the payroll day, affecting millions of workers trying to access salary deposits and pay bills.
