Mexican business groups address informal trade and tourism challenges
Business organizations in Mexico are addressing distinct economic challenges. In Mexico City, the National Chamber of Commerce, Services and Tourism (CANACO CDMX) has warned that formal businesses cannot compete with the rise of informal commerce. President Vicente Gutiérrez Camposeco stated that tax evasion, regulatory non-compliance, and the sale of counterfeit goods create unequal conditions that erode market trust and weaken investment and employment. CANACO CDMX proposed creating inter-institutional working groups involving tax, security, and consumer protection authorities to restore fair competition.
In Quintana Roo, the Spanish Chamber of Commerce in Mexico (Camescom) has established a new Tourism Commission to address challenges facing the Mexican Caribbean. Led by Marc Miralles Pons of RIU Hotels & Resorts, the commission aims to create a dialogue between the private sector and authorities. Key issues include the expansion of digital lodging platforms, the impact of sargassum, and the need for new investment to maintain regional competitiveness against international destinations.
